What to Do When You Lack Professional Fulfillment
If you are unsatisfied with your current professional situation, it may be time to make a change. While everyone’s career path is unique, there are a few tried-and-true steps than can enable every individual to find a truly fulfilling professional path.
Some of the most common forms of professional lack of fulfillment (and their solutions) that people experience include:
Unsatisfied Passions: What you do professionally may not necessarily be your favorite way to spend your time. Studies show that lack of personal interest in one’s work can make it difficult to focus, as well as can create mental fatigue lasting throughout the day. If you have other areas that you would rather pursue, you do not have to let them die out! Give yourself time to pursue activities that keep your passions and skills sharp until you find a way to profit from them as a side business. Look for and grow a network of people who have transformed their enthusiasm into careers of their own. With luck, you will meet a mentor who can help you find the next, better-fitting opportunity for you.
A Schedule That Isn’t Ideal: Many people have had to accept work hours during a time of day that conflicted with family and other personal obligations at one time or another. If you would like more flexible or more ideal work hours, consider researching other opportunities that may accommodate your needs. You may need to even increase your working hours for a period to enable yourself to pivot successfully from one source of income to the next; in the end, the time and effort will be well worth a smooth transition into your preferred work schedule.
Lack of Adequate Income: If your current income flow is not adequately covering your needs, you may want to consider increasing your earning power. Pursue an additional income source until your finances are firmly in the black. Income can come from a number of places: You may decide to seek additional avenues that advance your current career, or you may want to explore an interest that meets both your personal passions and your financial earning goals. Eventually, you may even realize you are ready to build your own business!
