What Entrepreneurs Should Do with Their Free Time
There are only so many hours in the day. When you find yourself with free time, how can you use it as productively as possible?
You can use your non-working hours to your and your business’ advantage if you take the opportunity to:
Refuel in a Meaningful Way.
Give yourself adequate time to recover and replenish your mind after the stressors of your day. If you don’t recharge your batteries, it could impact your professional performance. Make a point of getting enough sleep each night. A lack of sound sleep over an extended period can contribute to burnout! Similarly, take small breaks if you can throughout your day. If your work requires you to stay stationary at a computer, go out for a quick walk roughly every two hours. Give your eyes a break every twenty minutes for twenty seconds. Likewise, consider using your off time for meal prep and other activities that will enable you to consume healthy foods and thus increase your ability to work hard and handle stress as you build your business.
Get Active.
Incorporate activities that strengthen and support your body into your free time; your body deserves it! Move your body on a regular basis. Address pain and tension early on. Physical stress can translate to mental stress. Even a few more walks and stretch sessions during the week can help you be better prepared to tackle stress in any setting.
Expand Your Professional Skill Set.
Have a spare hour each week? Consider taking a class! With so many online options, self-study is easier than ever. The more tools you have in your professional toolbox, the more of an asset you’ll be to your business and your clients.
Assess Your Finances.
When was the last time you evaluated where you stand on your savings goals? Even a spare twenty minutes can give you a better sense of your financial standing. Take time to scrutinize your savings progress, your earning power, and the status of any outstanding debts at least once every quarter per year.
Get Organized.
Take advantage of spare time to go over your schedule for the week. Prepare for upcoming meetings and other commitments. For example, many people allocate time at end of the workweek or on Sunday to establish their goals and deadlines for the upcoming week. You can also use this time for a mindfulness practice that will increase your focus throughout the week.
Look for Professional Opportunities.
Networking can happen on and off the clock. You can make connections with people and see how you can solve their problems at any time of day and in practically any activity you participate in!
