Tricks for Controlling Your Stress Levels
It doesn’t matter whether you work from home or in an office; something or someone is going to stress you out at some point.
While a little stress can be good for us, too much of it can negatively affect our health, decision-making skills, and happiness.
You will be able to boost your performance and lower your stress levels if you:
Take Stretch Breaks.
Physical tension and mental tension are closely linked! One of the best ways to reduce your stress during the day: go for walks. Aim for hourly minibreaks, or at least a break every two hours. Likewise, assess your current workstation. Is it poorly lit? Do you hunch over while you work? Or is your work area well-lit and ergonomic? Give yourself enough space and light; make sure you work in a natural, posture-supporting position!
Eat (and Drink Water!).
We all feel more stress and tension when we are hungry. But this doesn’t necessarily mean you should snack all day or eat anything you feel like! You will benefit more from nutritious meals than from poor-quality snacks. Protein- and vitamin-rich foods will even out your stress levels far more effectively than sweets and processed snacks. While caffeine can help us perform at certain times of the day, over-caffeination can also lead to the jitters, issues with our focus, and yup, increased stress!
Focus on the Moment.
When it comes to controlling stress, your mindset goes a long way. Start by simplifying your to-do list. What can you realistically achieve today? Take on your tasks, one at a time. Resist the urge to multitask! While it may feel productive in the moment, studies show that multitasking negatively affects the brain’s ability to focus (which in turn can lead to more stress!). Instead of worrying about the ten things you want to accomplish today, push yourself to focus on a single task at a time. If you’re doing your best and not able to accomplish all ten goals you’ve set, then don’t beat yourself over this! Strive to achieve more tomorrow, while also accepting and assessing your current bandwidth.
Reach Out to Your Team.
Seek out a mentor’s advice. They can help you improve your time management, as well as introduce you to habits that will decrease stress and increase efficiency. If they think you have overloaded your plate, your mentor can help you pinpoint the resources you need, such as finding the right member of your team to support you.
