Feeling Doubtful? What to Do
When you experience uncertainty, how should you respond?
Doubt can spring from a number of places. While some uncertainties are merited, most are not. If you want to overcome your doubts and tackle the future with confidence, strive to:
Stay Aware of Your State of Mind.
Check in with your mental state throughout each day. When you identify that you’re feeling doubtful, take pause. Your doubt may indicate that you don’t trust a situation, or it may be a symptom of self-doubt, preventing you from acting toward your goals. When you stay self-aware, you enable yourself to better identify and overcome your doubt.
Assess Why You Are Feeling Doubtful.
Don’t let your doubt take control of you; assess where it may be coming from! Some of your uncertainty may stem from risks associated with a certain action you’re considering; in these cases, consider taking steps to protect yourself from these risks. Do research to directly address your uncertainty. If you’re experiencing self-doubt, don’t let it stop you from moving toward your goal! Pursue opportunities to improve yourself such as classes and self study. Take actions on a regular basis that move you toward your goals, regardless of your doubts.
Get Guidance.
When you’re feeling doubtful, reach out to a mentor or other trusted members of your support network. They can help you identify where your doubt stems from and how you can address it. For example, if you’re experiencing uncertainty about a financial commitment, it may be a sign that you should do more research into your options before agreeing to move forward. Your support network can help you similarly spot and overcome self-doubt in the interest of pursuing your goals. If you have room for improvement in certain areas, your network can help you grow in the right direction.
Don’t Give up
Self-doubt can keep you from pursuing your goals. The right mindset is key to avoid succumbing to fears and prevailing over obstacles. Every action you take is a step toward the future you see for yourself and your family. If you’re doubting yourself or your next steps, consult your trusted network. Break your goals into small, doable steps that you can take each day. With time, your consistent effort and commitment will enable you to grow your confidence as you continue to strive toward your goals.
